Acoustic Wave Therapy: What Is It And What Does It Do?
Acoustic Wave Therapy (AWT) is a mechanical stimulation that encourages natural healing processes in the body. Sound waves are used to inspire natural, safe reactions within tissue that helps to return that tissue to its optimal and homeostatic state. By using specific ranges of frequency, energy and pressure, treatment categories are endless. Overall, AWT is able to perform specific tasks that lead to optimization, healing, and pain management.
How does it work?
- Accelerates healing by stimulating the metabolism and enhancing blood circulation to regenerate damaged tissue.
- High energy acoustic sound waves are introduced into the body by penetrating tissue, and stimulating cells responsible for bone and connective tissue healing.
- Uses your body’s existing and natural healing agents such as red blood cells, growth factors and mobilizes stem cells.
Why AWT?
Acoustic Wave Therapy has a proven success rate that can be more effective at treating pain than other methods such as surgery or pharmaceuticals. Thousands of patients have benefitted from AWT and significantly improved their quality of life.
- 91% Success Rate (as per clinical studies)
- Faster, Easier Healing
- No Downtime
- Short, in-office treatments
- Long Term Results
- Effective And Affordable
- High Patient Satisfaction
How is AWT delivered?
The D-Actor® 50 with EPAT® (Extracorporeal Pulse Activation Technology) provides the most advanced non-invasive, in-office treatment solution that requires no analgesic, (pain reliever). The system delivers sound waves from outside the body to the area of discomfort using Biofeedback and a “point and shoot” method.
Each procedure consists of up to 5 treatments, 1 week apart.
Building Blood Flow Back
A primary benefit of AWT is neovascularization, or the creation of new blood vessels, especially in tissues where circulation has been impaired by trauma or disease. This is important because it offers an increase in blood flow, and nutrient supply, while providing new routes of elimination for recurrent inflammatory cells and metabolic wastes. As vascular formations grow and develop, oxygen supply is increased and tissues become healthier, stronger, and can metabolize more efficiently. Without this function, healthy cells can become damaged or weakened and unable to perform their function.
Arterial Clean Up
AWT also has the ability to break down thick plaque buildup within our arteries. Here, the non- invasive sound waves can physically destroy calcium and fat buildup, which widens arteries and restores circulation. Additionally, AWT is an important factor for cellular regeneration. If healthy blood cannot reach certain tissues, cell cycles and production of new cells could be halted.
Stem Cell Stimulation
Another main function of AWT is its support of the proliferation and differentiation of stem cells, which contributes to muscle healing and encourages bone and epithelial cell health. The body naturally does this through a cell-to-cell communication known as paracrine signaling. At the site of an injury, damaged cells release signals that recruit free floating stem cells to that location. From here, the cells can repair and regenerate specific tissues based on their physiological and distinct structures. Acoustic wave therapy helps amplify these signals to promote faster healing and shorter recovery time.
Getting On Your Nerves
Have you ever experienced intense, persistent, chronic pain? That is due to a neurotransmitter called Substance P. This neurotransmitter is responsible for pain perception and relaying that information to the central nervous system. The sound waves emitted through AWT help to lower the concentration of Substance P, thus reducing pain and inflammation. This treatment works great for musculoskeletal pains that are slow to heal due to injury or trauma.
Restoring & Regenerating – AWT Works!
Acoustic wave therapy is not a band aid. It heals the problematic area by increasing blood flow, creating new blood vessels, recruiting stem cells, and dispersing pain mediators.
AWT provides benefits that cannot be achieved by any other medical device. It is an alternative to surgery, medications, or other therapies that have not worked in the past.
It is important to seek treatment from a provider with a credible Acoustic Wave machine.
At Anderson Family Chiropractic, our machine is the only FDA cleared technology for tissue regeneration. So give us a call today, to find out if this treatment is right for you!
How Acoustic Wave Therapy Solves Plantar Fascitis
Have you ever felt a sharp pain or tightness in the bottom of your heel or the arch of your foot? Or maybe you wake up in the morning to tenderness in your heel that moves up to the balls of your feet, with a pain that usually goes away as you walk around a bit. You just might be dealing with some form of plantar fasciitis.
So What Is Plantar Fascsiitis?
To explain it simply, plantar fasciitis is a degenerative musculoskeletal disorder that commonly impacts people in the 40-60 age range. An inflammation of the connective tissue, or fascia, which extends from the heel through the arch of your feet, plantar fasciitis can impact a wide range of people, as the disorder originates from increased pressure of the plantar surface. So people dealing with obesity, flat feet, or issues of ankle mobility are all prone to plantar fasciitis, as are runners, who are most likely dealing with an acute injury, as opposed to a repetitive trauma.
Treating Plantar Fasciitis at Home
Before you go running to a doctor for treatment, know that minor and acute flare ups of plantar fasciitis can be treated from the comfort of your home, with some simple treatments.
First, plantar fasciitis is an inflammation, and a solid treatment for any inflammation is rest. And while you’re resting, ice the specific pain point. If you’re experiencing localized pain, apply ice directly to the hurting area of your foot.
Additional Treatments for Plantar Fasciitis
Sometimes the inflammation just does not go away with rest and ice, and for those situations, we would always encourage you to seek out a medical professional for help. Your solution may be as simple as a shoe insert that will redistribute the pressure on your foot as you walk or run.
In some cases, you may be directed to anti-inflammatory drugs, localized steroid injections, electrotherapy or physiotherapy, but while these treatments often address the pain, they do not offer curative results.
Acoustic Wave: A Better Treatment
At Anderson Family Chiropractic, we offer Acoustic Wave Therapy as a treatment for plantar fasciitis. Recent research shows that AWT is proven to have a positive impact on the plantar tissue through the transmission of sound waves in the affected area. These sound waves disperse pain receptors, and initiate the healing process of blood vessel formation and increased nutrient flow to the damaged plantar region.
Through ultrasound imaging, there is proof that this treatment also reduces the thickness of inflamed tissue and restructures the appearance of the plantar fascia. Essentially, Acoustic Wave Therapy is a successful treatment for both the pain and inflammation attributed to plantar fasciitis.

Fixing Chronic Low Back Pain
Low back pain is the second most common disorder affecting American adults. More than 80% of us will experience lower back pain at some point in our lifetime.
Lower back pain is a significant quality of life issue that can be caused by a wide range of challenges including congenital issues, injuries, degenerative issues, and nerve problems.
Addressing Traditional Treatments
Traditionally, chronic lower back pain has been treated with medications like analgesics, (NSAIDS, muscle relaxers, topical pain relief, etc.), heat, ice, stretching massage therapy, physical therapy, etc. The issue with those pain treatment strategies is that they are addressing the body’s response to pain, but not actually impacting the damaged or inflamed tissue. Essentially, traditional treatments to low back pain fail to address the actual problems. Many of these treatments are designed to disrupt pain signals, and do bring a measure of relief, but do not work to actually cure lower back pain.
Introducing Acoustic Wave Therapy
At Anderson Family Chiropractic, our work with acoustic wave therapy works to both modify the damaged tissue, while retraining the body’s natural reflex to pain in that affected area.
Through the use of strong and repeated stimulation on synaptic junctions (the spot where your pain receptors are located), acoustic wave therapy deletes the pathological memory reflex that develops chronic states, while simultaneously treating the painful area. The disbursement of those pain receptors almost immediately allows for increased circulation and metabolism as the area of stress relaxes. This transition stimulates real and permanent healing over time. This allows for a more natural reset of those pain receptors, allowing the chronic response to disappear.
Healing to Live
Lower back pain can be debilitating, and so many treatments are designed to exclusively treat pain in the moment. So treatments are endless, costs mount, and the pain never truly goes away because the body never actually changes its patterns. But with acoustic wave therapy at the Frank Institute, your body can be healed of its chronic back pain.
